Crécerelle: Treehouse in Languedoc-Roussillon (Occitanie)

To find the property, it's best not to rely entirely on the GPS. A few hundred meters from the finish, it suggested we turn left. We complied. This is a quality generally attributed to good drivers: they trust the machine. So we took a rather rough, stony track, which offered us a few extra minutes of sightseeing before logically bringing us back exactly where we had started. The owner explained that he was aware of the problem. A small sign indicating the direction would certainly prevent some visitors from discovering the joys of off-roading. The welcome, however, was friendly. The owner accompanied us to the cabin and explained that a storm a few days earlier had destroyed two of the four. An expert had come and checked everything. Well… almost everything. In our cabin, while I was already inside, my partner was following me when she suddenly found herself in my arms. The last step, just before the front door, had given way beneath his feet. The wood was rotten. There are more romantic ways to end up in someone's arms, but this one had the merit of being unexpected. The cabin, however, is truly lovely. It's beautifully furnished, nestled in a magnificent cedar tree. The terrace overlooks the vineyards and offers a superb view of the Black Mountains and the Pic Saint-Loup. That's when you understand why you came. Inside, however, it's best to avoid putting a bottle or a glass on the table. Ours preferred to go straight to the floor. The table is so wobbly that it seems to want to get some fresh air too. Then comes the tour of the cellar. Everything gleams: the stainless steel, the tanks, the equipment. The winemaker tells us about his craft, the difficulties linked to climate change, and the need to diversify. The cabins are part of this diversification. So are the concerts. And then there's the tasting. The estate's wines are excellent. We taste, we discuss, we appreciate. And, as is customary, a small selection of wines is kindly placed in our hands. It's at this point that I discreetly point out the faulty step. The owner is aware of it. It will be repaired. "Another day, perhaps." We return to the cabin. And there, it must be said, the view is magnificent.

First of all, we wanted to thank you for taking the time to leave us such a detailed review. We are delighted that you enjoyed the experience, the view, and the tasting. Regarding access, I had informed you that there is a sign at each intersection leading to the estate, so I am surprised by your feedback on this point. I would also like to correct your statement: the last step did not break. It was simply the nosing (approximately 2 cm on a 25 cm step) that became loose due to the change in humidity, which we fixed the very next day. This had nothing to do with the storm. Very pretty tree house, breathtaking view of the vineyards, beautiful terrace, care given to the small decorative details of the openings, ladders, stairs...etc, lots of charm. Only problems: mattress that squeaks loudly at night, very basic shower area and not well heated / price of nights.

Very nice concept for an adventure that is out of the ordinary...we enjoyed it and had a great evening. The estate is well located, very quiet and the owners are very friendly. The young winemaker is truly passionate about his profession. He gave us the visit to the cellar and the tastings with concise explanations which gave us food for thought as to the importance of preserving these beautiful professions...difficult agricultural professions which unfortunately today still do not provide a good living for these enthusiasts...so that they deserve all our gratitude and respect. Organic wines are also excellent. Thank you really to the owners of the Arbousiers estate.

We loved the one night cabin experience. The kestrel hut has a breathtaking view of the Pic Saint Loup…. And the vines, it is full of charm and comfortable, although the adult bed is a bit small. Pulley for mounting luggage and packed lunches. The calm nature and the change of scenery are there. Very friendly welcome, visit to the cellar, walk in the form of an interesting treasure hunt despite the errors slipped into the game. Small flat on the cleanliness of the common sanitary facilities. We are not looking for great luxury by staying close to nature but for the price we expect better on this side.

Thank you for your very detailed feedback. It's true that the kestrel cabin offers a view of the vineyards and unobstructed sunsets. Regarding the bed, it is indeed 140x190cm. Hello, Thank you for your rating. Regarding your feedback, we are a little surprised. We organize a few events each year to showcase our property, but we take care to ensure they don't disrupt your stay. Regarding the water in the cabin, there can indeed be some leaks, but only around the tree trunk during heavy Cévennes storms (the tree can penetrate the structure, so we can't make the cabin 100% watertight). However, this doesn't affect the comfort of the cabin in any way. We look forward to seeing you again. The Domaine Team

Our set menu of starter, main course, dessert, and a bottle of wine served directly to the cabin remains at the modest price of €25 per person.
